There are many choices available today for the prospective cosmetic surgical patient. There are many important decisions to be made as well. How does one go about choosing a surgeon and a safe facility? What is the appropriate and correct procedure and can it be carefully performed? Can the desired results be realistically obtained?

Safety first is Dr. Shuter's most important rule. He performs his surgeries exclusively in a hospital or fully approved surgical center and feels that this is the safest environment for cosmetic surgery to be performed. Most procedures are performed as an outpatient and with a variety of anesthetic techniques ranging from local to epidural to general as deemed appropriate.

As a busy surgeon, Dr. Shuter's patients are treated like VIP's and are charged facility fees that are competitive with nearby office facilities. Dr. Shuter also feels strongly that a “Natural Result” is the most beautiful result. An extremely tight facelift or outrageously large breast implants are not considered desirable. A body in proportion and a naturally beautiful face will inspire confidence and well being, and should be the goal of excellent cosmetic surgery. Dr. Shuter is very concerned with the number of untrained and marginally trained surgeons that perform cosmetic surgical procedures.

As a board certified Plastic Surgeon and a member in good standing of numerous prestigious societies, Dr. Shuter has the appropriate credentials that patients desire. However, he warns prospective patients to carefully research their doctors. Are they board certified in Plastic Surgery or in a different specialty? Do they have hospital privileges for the procedure or can they only work out of their office without any surgical peer review. Is their office facility licensed or is it just a room in the office. Dr. Shuter is glad to answer these questions and recommends that any possible surgeon do the same. He also recommends that patients call their local societies and specialty societies to back up any claims of membership.
